Sessions, fees and practical details

A little of the practical side, so you know what to expect before we begin.

Weekly sessions

Individual sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week. In our first session we’ll agree a regular weekly slot that becomes yours for the duration of our work together.

Coming consistently, at the same time each week, genuinely matters — it’s part of what makes the work possible, and the steadiness of a reliable time is often therapeutic in itself. Because your slot is held exclusively for you, the full fee applies to any session that is missed or cancelled, including when notice is given. It remains your reserved time.

If you’d like longer sessions, extended appointments are available at a pro-rated fee. As with all sessions, this reflects not only our time together but the work that surrounds it — preparation, reading, research, and keeping confidential notes.

Online and in person

For the moment all sessions are held online, via Zoom. Online work also remains available longer-term for anyone living further away, or where it simply suits your circumstances better.

Booking your first appointment

To arrange a first session, please email me at sam@drsambarcham.com with a sense of your availability. I aim to reply promptly, though during busier periods it can take up to 48 hours.

Rescheduling

If you need to rearrange an appointment, this is usually possible, particularly with some notice. I’m grateful for as much warning as you can give — it makes it far easier to find an alternative time. There is a late cancellation fee for less than 3 days’ notice.

Fees and payment

I accept payment by bank transfer.

The first session fee is settled in advance by bank transfer.

After our first session, once we’ve agreed to continue working together, I’m happy to invoice monthly unless you’d prefer a different arrangement — whatever makes managing payment simplest for you.

Breaks through the year

I usually take the following breaks, and I’ll always let you know in advance if anything changes:

  • 2 weeks at Easter
  • The month of August (for 2026 it is exceptionally the month of July)
  • 2 weeks at Christmas / New Year break
